AMP Lab Pack The Box & Pink Out

Breastie Boxes is very much a grassroots organization that hit the ground running…hard.  The beauty in this, and the gift of our mission, is that many community partners have absolutely been essential in our growth and service.  AMP Lab High School through Fort Wayne Community Schools was a true catalyst in our growth in 2023. 

We were approached to be a community partner for students to come alongside us, but we had very little idea how much these students were going to impact and change our lives.  We came to pitch day asking students to choose us for certain tasks we needed in our organization and the results were staggering with them wanting to get involved. 

We kicked off our partnership with a Pack the Box event for students to learn about our boxes, how they provide comfort, hope, confidence, and joy to patients diagnosed with breast cancer.  Both morning and afternoon groups had to plan content for social media, merchandise all materials going in boxes (some even student created), and then also capture the magical day all while packing and being hands-on with over 80 boxes.

Once students learned a little more about what we do, by building empathy with this disease, normalizing talking about breast health…the stage was set to jump in to the ultimate task…to plan a true high school football PINK OUT game.  We discussed how they could make it different, more impactful, all while raising funds for Breastie Boxes.  Not only did they execute this, but they also went above and beyond by bringing in several other school districts to participate, get media coverage, and raise even more funding. 

On Friday October 13th, over 6 high schools participated in a city-wide pink out that raised almost $2000 all from high school students believing in us, but more importantly…believing in themselves.
